Our FDR’s Hyde Park, New York Tour is designed for those who wish to visit the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt National Historic Sites. The home of FDR, ‘Springwood’, was his beloved lifelong home. Within the 300-acre site is the first Presidential Library and Museum. Nearby, we can also visit the Vanderbilt Mansion, Eleanor Roosevelt’s National Historic Site ‘Val-Kill’, FDR’s ‘Top Cottage’ and if you wish, the Culinary Institute of America (CIA).

Historic Hyde Park, New York is a town located 90 miles north of New York City in Dutchess County, New York, within the beautiful Hudson Valley. The town is most famous for being the hometown of U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

Another stop on our Hyde Park tour could be the Vanderbilt Mansion. This 1896, 54-room “cottage” is a remarkable example of the gilded-age Beaux-arts country place. Fully furnished with period pieces on 211 acres of gardens and woods. Built by Frederick W. Vanderbilt. This site is not to be missed!

A short drive along country roads will bring us to Val-Kill, Eleanor Roosevelt’s home in later years, Val-Kill was once the Roosevelt family retreat. The small cottage and the main building at Val-Kill was originally the Val-Kill furniture factory later converted into ER’s home. A must see on it’s gorgeous wooded acres.

Did you know that ‘Val-Kill’ is Dutch for valley stream?

Not far from the Roosevelt and Vanderbilt National Historic Sites is the Culinary Institute of America. The CIA www.ciachef.edu , founded in 1946, is a non-profit culinary college located in Hyde Park. Not only is it one of America’s great culinary colleges but it houses five restaurants. Depending on the day and time, these restaurants are available for lunching and dining.
